Personal symbolism
Bells carry sound across distance, and the dream distinguishes between a toll and liberty bells. Tolling brings a mournful tone connected with distant friends and troubling news of wrongs. Liberty bells instead ring with victory and joy over an opponent. Consider the quality of the sound, where it came from, and how you felt as it carried through the scene. The same symbol can signal grief or celebration depending on its form, so the specific kind of bell and what it announced may be central to your personal associations.
Questions to reflect on
- Were the bells tolling or celebrating liberty?
- What news or contest did the sound seem to announce?
