Personal symbolism
Knocking is a sound from outside that asks for attention before you know what is waiting. In a dream, it can concentrate anticipation, uncertainty, or the feeling that something important is approaching. Notice whether you only heard it or were jolted awake by it; the dream gives greater weight to the interruption. The source of the sound, the surrounding atmosphere, and your first emotion may help you understand what kind of news or change has been occupying your thoughts.
Questions to reflect on
- Did the knocking wake you, or did you hear it within the dream?
- What did you expect to find at the door?
- What serious news or unresolved matter is on your mind?
