Personal symbolism
Ointment is something applied to soothe or care for a surface, making it an image of practical help and attention. Here it connects with friendships that bring benefit and pleasure; making it gives a young woman the ability to direct her own affairs. The later image of an old man or woman carries a different tone: unhappy cares press upon you if the figure appears other than serene. Notice which scene stayed with you and whether the ointment felt healing or purposeful. The older figure’s expression may reflect the emotional weight you are carrying.
